The Opposition welcomes news that independent observers will no longer be required for all short-haul live cattle shipments.
Opposition Leader Gary Higgins said this was a sensible measure that shows that the Federal Coalition is listening and responsive.
"I have written to and met with the Federal Agriculture Minister on several occasions to champion the cause of the live export trade and highlighted the importance of the $1 billion plus agribusiness sector to the Territory," Mr Higgins said.
"An observer can cost an exporter up to $1300 a day for a very short trip where there is a low mortality rate so to reduce this cost and free up business is only good news.
"The Territory Opposition continues to work constructively with the Federal Coalition Government to support and grow the live export sector."
