Local Jobs Fund fail

19 September 2019

For a Government who continuously tells us it is focused on ‘growing jobs’, it is absolutely laughable this Gunner Labor Government hasn’t spent a single cent from the $100m Local Jobs Fund announced in December last year, says Deputy Opposition Leader Lia Finocchiaro.

She said the Opposition submitted eight written questions regarding the Local Jobs Fund, to find out zero dollars of the $100m had been spent ‘growing jobs’.

"The $100m Local Jobs Fund came from the Northern Territory Infrastructure Development Fund, which was dissolved by the Gunner Labor Government, following a shocking $10m investment in the failed NT Beverages.

In response to questions submitted by the Opposition regarding the performance of the Jobs Fund, the Gunner Labor Government advised that loan guarantees, business investment concessional loans, equity co-investment loans and grants issued by the Local Jobs Fund in Financial Years 2018/19 and 2019/20, was nil.

"If you ever needed an example of the incompetent Gunner Labor Government, this has got to be it," Mrs Finocchiaro said.

"$100m taxpayer dollars has achieved nothing thanks to the Gunner Labor Government.

"It’s been three long, wasted years and this Gunner Labor Government has done nothing but sit around and waste time and taxpayer dollars.

"The Gunner Labor Government needs to explain to Territorians how this $100m is going to improve the economy or the lives of Territorians.

"We really question the Gunner Labor Government’s ability to govern."
