The Gunner Labor Treasurer has responded to the Opposition’s motion on government waste by trotting out more tired lines, blaming the former government.
Opposition Leader Gary Higgins said he was disappointed Minister Manison decided an appropriate response was to revisit the sins of the former government and brag about the Gunner Labor Government’s expenditure
"Again, they just don’t get it," he said.
"And it’s more than disturbing that the Treasurer herself is in denial about the government’s role in contributing to a net debt of $6.2 billion.
"It proves they still believe they have done nothing wrong, that they believe spending $19.4 million on an underground carpark for public servants is worthy, or $800,000 on a failed museum vanity project at Myilly Point, or $161,000 on promotional fence wrap.
"They are not serious about reining in the spending or stopping the waste.
"Their default position is to bang on about what happened four to five years ago. It’s time they grew up and actually addressed the serious problems we have in the Northern Territory.
"We can’t afford them anymore, and we certainly can’t afford more than $1 million a day in interest which we’re currently paying."
