Labor a mess, missing annual address

3 December 2018

The Labor Government has failed – again.

Labor accepted Recommendation 39.7 of the Royal Commission into the Protection and Detention of Children which requires the Chief Minister to deliver an annual update on the progress of the government’s "Generational Strategy" to the Northern Territory Parliament.

But the deadline for the address has passed and the parliament is not scheduled to meet again in 2018.

Deputy Leader of the Opposition Lia Finocchiaro said the failure to report to the parliament demonstrated Labor’s reluctance to be examined on the issues.

"The Labor Government simply doesn’t want to debate their progress – because they have nothing to say," Mrs Finocchiaro said.

"The self-marked report card released by the Government on 16 November highlighted how little progress has been made.

"The Chief Minister has a responsibility to the Parliament and a responsibility to Territorians.

"Labor are arrogant – they think they know best and are above scrutiny. That is why the Opposition moved to censure the Chief Minister in Parliament last week to highlight the litany of failures."
