Holding the Gunner Labor Government to account

17 September 2019

Out of touch, wasteful, and incompetent are the hallmarks of the Gunner Labor Government.

Deputy Opposition Leader Lia Finocchiaro said the Gunner Labor Government’s performance over the last three years has been dismal, and she plans to fire a long list of failures across the Chamber to Government members in a speech as part of the CLP Oppositon’s General Business Day motion.

"Prior to coming to power, the Chief Minister said that his government would be "excitedly boring"," Mrs Finocchiaro said.

"Well it’s fair to say, you achieved boring, and failed at everything else.

"In three long years, the Gunner Labor Government has shown itself to be boundlessly incompetent and out of touch with the needs and aspirations of Territorians."

In listing the facts and figures showing the Gunner Labor Government’s hopeless fiscal and economic performance, Mrs Finocchiaro will also highlight population loss, business closures, rampant property crime, overreaching alcohol laws, antisocial behaviour, and a fearful community.

"Given their extensive failures, we question their ability to govern," Mrs Finocchiaro said.

She will also condemn the Gunner Labor Government for failing Territorians.

"I love the Territory and I want to see all Territorians get a fair go, but with less than a year to the 2020 election, I have no confidence in the Gunner Labor Government’s ability to turn things around" she said.

"Unlike the Gunner Labor Government, the CLP Opposition supports our public service, wants Territorians to feel safe in their homes and businesses, and believes in the importance of small business, limited government involvement in people’s lives, and economic growth and diversification.

"Territorians want a government that shares in their hopes and aspirations but the Gunner Labor Government has wasted three years and achieved nothing, nor have they improved the economy or quality of life of Territorians."
