Business lacks confidence in Government

The Gunner Labor Government once again proves it does not understand or support small business.

Opposition Leader Gary Higgins said the proof was in this month’s SENSIS Business Outlook and Confidence Survey.

"What’s most staggering from this data is that zero per cent of small and medium businesses in the NT expect ‘economic growth’ next year," he said.

"On top of that, 50 per cent expect a ‘slowdown’, and 50 per cent expect a ‘standstill’."

Mr Higgins said 50 per cent of businesses believe Gunner Labor Government policies ‘work against small business’, which was nearly double Queensland – the next worst performer at 28 per cent, struggling under another Annastacia Palaszczuk Labor Government.

"Small and medium business is the backbone of the Territory economy,’ Mr Higgins said.

"They make up 95 per cent of all business in the Territory with about 14,000 businesses.

"The CLP is pro-business, and pro-development and understands that the Territory must be competitive as an investment destination.

"The fact that zero per cent of small and medium businesses in the Territory expect growth next year is damning.

"The Opposition had been calling on the Gunner Labor Government to rein in the spending, free up industry and business, support a diversified economy, support sustainable infrastructure, remove regulatory burdens on business, incentivise private sector investment, and stop the waste.

"You just can’t trust Labor with the economy."
