Labor introduces band aid fix to Dan Ban mess

Today the Labor Government introduced legislation to fix the world’s worst kept secret that the Labor Government is against Dan Murphy’s opening in Darwin.

‘The Labor Government tried to block Dan Murphy’s through a ban on alcohol retailers with a floor space greater than 400 sqm. Then there was the infamous comments from the Chief Minister’s former Chief of Staff that Dan Murphy’s is “Bunnings for drunks”, said Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Gary Higgins.

‘The Chief Minister is a hypocrite when he says that the Liquor Commission decision to reject Dan’s application is   “a kick in the guts”. It’s his Liquor Commission, applying his rules.

‘Labor has effectively stifled approximately $40 million in private investment and at least 160 jobs. Territorians deserve to be treated with respect. Territorians deserve to have choice and competition in the market.

‘This week we’ve seen the Chief Minister’s former Chief of Staff involved in backdoor dealings at the Turf Club, and we know that that same individual was instrumental in the Dan Ban. The question is, if the Chief Minister has nothing to hide, why won’t he commit to an independent review of the influence of his former Chief of Staff during his tenure.
